I love teaching. I really do. Grading, though annoying at times, is not my favorite thing to do, but is ok. I work in a Japanese High School teaching English, so my grades in particular are more based on the effort shown rather than always having the right answer/being really good at english. Because of this I tend to base my grading on homework, have you completed it?, folders, do you keep your class folders neat/have all your worksheets? and participation, which I track on my students folders and stamp during class.
So, my grading, is not very hard to do, but takes a long time with 200 students and is a bit tedious. I need to collect all the folders and check that all the worksheets are there and see how their participation is, then add the homework.
It is not cool when the teacher I work with tells me today (for the first time), half way through the day that she needs the grades by the end of the week. This would not be so bad if I was not placed at a different school tomorrow, so I will not be at the current school. This gives me about 4 hours to A- round up all my students folders, look through them all, count all their stamps, and add homework to that...
or B- come up with grades that do not fairly show what they have done...
Thanks so much boss lady...
